Be passive, be ready, be open, be free, be the virgin awaiting the bridegroom. Think of heaven and think of His suffering. It is ok to attain things in life but simultaneously let us recognize their inherent value as dust, as nothing in this world can be taken to heaven. If it is still difficult for you, I would recommend slowly getting in the habit of simplifying life through every quarter. What can you do to simplify? What can you do to subtract what you don't need? Constantly reassess and read more about the saints, as they have such endearing ways about making one see the severity of missing out on God’s love. They are the closest to Him from our own humanly perspective—almost as if you are right there speaking to God through their own mystical calling. In such a way, He could be speaking to you through them, hence you are reading their book in the first place.
